  • Smart Bar is starting up a label called Northside '82. The name of the label refers to the venue's location on Chicago's North Side and the year of its founding. Over the decades, the nightclub, situated beneath the Metro concert hall, has been an important pillar of the Chicago scene. Since Marea Stamper, AKA The Black Madonna, took over talent buying duties, Smart Bar has also embarked on an ambitious residency program with a focus on supporting and developing local DJs (as well as hosting Honey Soundsystem's arty Generators series and a month of programming focused on women). The first release on the imprint comes from one such local resident, Ike Release, AKA Ike Velez, who also operates as one half of Innerspace Halflife with Hakim Murphy. The Dance Equations EP is said to show off his "more physical side." You can check out clips below. The vinyl will land on July 3rd, with a full digital release to follow on August 14th.
