  • Minneapolis techno veteran Paul Birken is gearing up to put out Surfin' Superior Vol. 2. Vol. 2 arrives about 19 years after Vol. 1, one of Birken's earliest releases, which came out on Woody McBride's Communique Records imprint. The vinyl for that one has long been highly sought after (and commands very high secondhand prices), though Birken has made it available for stream and a name-your-price download on his Bandcamp page alongside plenty of his other music. As you might expect from Birken, Vol. 2 is another serving of rough-hewn, acid-drenched techno. Like the first volume, it features eight tracks across four sides of wax, but this one will see issue through the Swedish label TSR Records. A digital version, featuring some extra material, will be available as well. A firm release date hasn't been set yet, though it looks like it'll hit shops in a few weeks (and Birken will have some copies available for stateside buyers), according to this quirky Facebook post, which claims support from "DJs, digi-jockeys, dairy farmers, Vladimir Putin, unicycling bears, daycare centers and magic German sausages." You can check out samples, paired with typically weird video footage, over at Birken's YouTube page, with first track "Road Rash" viewable below.
