  • Chicago record store Gramaphone has announced details of its in-house record label, launching in January 2015. Currently owned by Michael Serafini, Gramaphone has been open since 1969. It stocks new and second-hand records from across the dance music spectrum, including plenty of house and techno as well as hip-hop, industrial, electro and more bass-focused fare. The first record is called A New Room and it comes from Garrett David, Gramaphone's house buyer and a resident at Smart Bar party Queen! David has already appeared on labels like Balance Recordings, Stripped & Chewed and Discovery Recordings (as part of the Bell Boys). It's technically the third release from Gramaphone—in 2012 they co-released Lil' Louis's "Fable" with Diamond Records, then in 2014 they teamed up with Jeff Mills's Axis Records for the Zones And Layers EP—but this is the first time they've gone it alone. They say 2015 will see the label continue to shine light on "a new generation of Chicago." A New Room will arrive on vinyl and digital formats. Listen to clips of all four tracks below.
