  • U Street Music Hall will host an early evening fundraiser for DanceSafe on Wednesday, December 10th. Founded in 1998, DanceSafe is an educational resource for advocating safe recreational drug use in dance music culture. Since its inception, the organization has expanded to include nine local chapters throughout the country, and now provides harm reduction booths at many major festivals, including TomorrowWorld, Mysteryland, Electric Forest and Movement Detroit. While the group will not provide on-site testing for drug adulteration (as they did at some events in the '90s and early '00s), the support of U Street Music Hall—DC's most visible dance music institution—may signal a sea change in the way that harm reduction organizations such as DanceSafe are perceived by authorities and venues. DJ Lisa Frank, Christian Dope and Seba Yuri will provide the soundtrack for this 18-plus party, which goes from 7 to 10 PM. All proceeds from the door will go to DanceSafe.
