  • The third edition of Crosstown Rebels's Day Zero festival will take place in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico, on January 10th next year. The daylong event will see a debut performance from Damian Lazarus & The Ancient Moons, a new four-piece project that'll be playing material from an album slated for release in 2015. They'll be joined by DJ Harvey, Matthew Dear, Mathew Jonson, DJ Three, Audiofly, Citizen, Francesca Lombardo, Laura Jones, Fur Coat and Metrika. Day Zero is happening at Chanolandia, a site dotted with "pyramids, ancient cenotes and palapa dwellings," organisers say. In addition to the musical side of things, the crew behind Day Zero say there will also be "traditional Mayan ceremonies, consciousness talks, sunrise yoga and tai chi, sweat lodges and fire walking." We spoke with Lazarus via email this week to find out more:
What will your new live show look and sound like? I have been preparing my new album release and my first ever live show throughout 2014, and we are almost ready to launch it all. This is a really exciting time for me as I am about to enter a completely new phase in my musical life. Damian Lazarus & The Ancient Moons consists of myself and three extremely talented musicians and we aim to create light out of the dark. When do you think the album will land? We are looking at a spring 2015 release for the album. The title track, "Vermilion," will be given to a few select DJs over the New Year's holidays and that, along with some killer remixes from Jamie Jones and others, will be released just before the album. How would you describe the festival site to someone who's never visited that part of the world? Imagine a party in the most incredible ancient-worldly site in the middle of the jungle, with your every need catered for during an entire day that features magic, illusions, spiritual and mystical happenings, all set to a soundtrack presented by the best DJs on the planet… that is Day Zero.
