Ultra Miami is now 18-and-over

- Responding to safety concerns, the festival will raise its minimum age of attendance.
- Ultra has announced that, as of 2015, its flagship festival in Miami will raise the minimum age of attendance to 18. The announcement follows the successful 2014 edition of New York's Electric Zoo festival, which, despite cancelling its third day due to inclement weather, has been praised for improving safety and security measures since last year. Now Ultra—who narrowly held onto their Bayfront Park location this year following 83 arrests, the tragic death of a 21-year-old attendee, and a gatecrashing incident that left a security guard in critical condition—have sets their sights on improving health and safety by limiting tickets to adults. "We ultimately believe that Ultra Music Festival is a premium event geared towards adults," the organization's spokesperson explained in a press release. "This decision has been made to reinforce and promote the safety of all Ultra Music Festival fans and to ensure the overall enjoyment of all future attendees." The organization has also hired a new security director, former Miami Beach police chief Ray Martinez, to oversee the implementation of "several new measures" for keeping partiers out of harm's way. "The first step to preserving the unique atmosphere that Ultra is famous for," he says, "is to be proactive in attracting the right crowd." Ultra will return to Bayfront Park in downtown Miami in March, with pre-registration for tickets opening on September 15th.
