Sancho Panza will not take place at this year's Notting Hill Carnival.
Jimmy K Tel and Matt Brown's stage on Middle Row has been a staple of carnival weekend for 20 years. But ongoing construction work—a school is being replaced by a block of flats on the site they use—mean the pair are taking a year off.
"We thought long and hard about this, there's certainly going to be a big Sancho Panza-shaped hole for a lot of us come the end of August but ultimately, we feel it's the right thing to do," says Jimmy K Tel. They'll review their decision come 2015. Sancho Panza will maintain their residency at Trapeze—formerly East Village—in 2014, and also have a run of festival dates and Thames boat parties planned.
