- Ninety and ex:el will see a remaster and re-release on Artoffact Records next month.
Artoffact Records will drop two 808 State remasters on July 29th.
808 State was founded by Graham Massey, Martin Price and Gerald Simpson (aka A Guy Called Gerald) in 1987. They released their debut album Newbuild, a foundational record for acid house in the UK, in 1988, and he followed it with their biggest hit, "Pacific State." Both Ninety and ex:el came in its wake, and the LP marked a transition period for the band, with Simpson leaving just before the release of the former in 1989. While Ninety was largely a continuation of the acid sound they were known for, ex:el (from 1991) waded into the depths of electronica and more experimental sounds. It features collaborations with Björk and New Order's Bernard Sumner and had a sizeable UK chart hit with "In Yer Face."
Each cassette will come in 150 copies with custom colour choices, and they're due to be bulked up with bonus tracks taken from the 808 State Archives released back in 2010.
