Helena Hauff, Dinky and Tama Sumo will all spin at the Munich club, which is devoting its entire March programme to women DJs.
Munich club Harry Klein will devote its entire March schedule to female DJs.
The club will also change its name to Marry Klein for the month, in an effort to shine light on the difficulties faced by aspiring female DJs, with a series of workshops and film screenings also planned. "We would like to show that there is no need for the persistent under-representation of women on the schedule of clubs and festival timetables," the club says. The Marry Klein concept is something the club has done before, back in 2006 and 2007.
In addition to booking a number of high-profile female DJs—Tama Sumo, Dinky, Helena Hauff, Honey Dijon and Lakuti among them—throughout March, the club will also offer up-and-coming female jocks the chance to spin at its Münchner Kindl night. Though it's been running for six years, most entrants have been male. In January the club publicly asked for more local females to enter, and from those entires they've selected three DJs to spin all night on March 6th.
The month will also see Marry Klein host workshops for female DJs (March 15th), VJs (March 8th) and an Ableton tutorial on March 29th. They will host a screening of a documentary called Sounds Queer, about three female DJs living in Berlin. The film, which will be shown as part of DOK. fest (a high-profile German documentary festival), features Tama Sumo, who is spinning at the club on March 21st. Additional discussions will be taking place at the venue on March 7th (with Electric Indigo) and March 1st (with Jackie A).
