Marc Romboy will release a retrospective of his work, Shades, through Systematic Recordings in March.
The three-disc compilation lands almost a exactly a year after the release of his last album, Taiyo, produced with Ken Ishii. Featuring more than 30 tracks—including originals, remixes and nine new tunes—Shades is the most comprehensive account of the German producer's work to date. Well-known cuts such as "Eurasia" and "Lost", produced alongside Gui Boratto and Tyree Cooper respectively, will rub shoulders with newer songs like "The Advent" and KiNK collaboration "Delusion Of The Enemy." Kris Wadsworth, Stephan Bodzin and Terrence Parker also feature.
"With Shades I wanted to underline the different ways I make music," says Romboy. "I just follow my feelings in the studio and don't think of any style, category or what other people would think about it. This is not easy for people who need categories, but this is me and I only release stuff under my own real name." He describes Disc One as "deep groovy and soulful," with Disc Two on a more "melodic, trippy and warm" tip. The final disc sees him explore "noise, machine rhythms and crazy sounds."
