  • The 8th Annual SCP Backpack Music Festival will take place in Detroit on Saturday, August 3rd. After being based at New Center Park last year, the day-long, all-ages event—hosted by the Michigan nonprofit organization SCP, which helps collect school supplies for students in need—will return to its previous home at Belle Isle Park on the Detroit River. As usual, the techno and house-heavy program features some of the city's most treasured DJs along with plenty more local fixtures, and around 30 total acts are set to appear across two stages. Juan Atkins and Eddie Fowlkes return to the top of the bill, and Terrence Parker, DJ Bone, Al Ester and Bruce Bailey are confirmed along with a few live bands such as Lola Valley. Other highlights include Jenny Lafemme, Detroit Techno Militia (represented by T.Linder and DJ Seoul) and Jay Daniel. Children will get free entry, along with those who bring a backpack with school supplies to donate. The day will kick off bright and early at 8 AM with a Sunrise Breakfast (kids eat free), and attendees are invited to bring their own food, drink and picnic gear, like blankets, lawn chairs and grills.
