  • Butterz will hold its third birthday party in London on February 23rd. The London-based imprint has become one of the most prominent in grime since its 2010 transformation from blog into record label. Focusing on melodic instrumental grime influenced heavily by funk music, Butterz now counts producers like Terror Danjah, and Swindle as part of its official roster. With releases by Royal-T and Champion, Butterz has also dipped its toes into garage and UK funky. The anniversary shindig will take place at Cable, where the imprint holds regular parties. It'll be headlined by Bristol-based 4AD signee Joker, and though he's never actually released on Butterz, his G-funk-infused dubstep suits the label's ethos well. He'll play back-to-back with Swindle, a London producer and Deep Medi associate whose work often dissolves the boundaries between grime and dubstep and heavily incorporates jazz elements. Veteran producer Terror Danjah is also billed to play, along with Rinse FM resident Royal-T and UK funky artist Champion. As usual, label bosses Elijah and Skilliam will play back-to-back. The flyer also promises at least one special guest, yet to be announced.
