- RA takes a look at what's happening across the States for New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.
NYE lands on a Monday this year, which can mean a very long weekend of partying, a short work week, or (if you're lucky) both. With that in mind, our look at some of the best year-end parties across the country will focus on events happening on the 31st, along with a handful of picks for New Year's Day.
Local crews will lead the charge in Los Angeles: Doc Martin's Sublevel Space Explorer has Wicked's Jeno, Garth and Markie Mark all on board, and Droid Behavior will keep it in the family with DJ Hyperactive, Drumcell and Raiz, among others. Both events are happening at unannounced locations.
The Exchange has a heavy-hitting lineup, with Sasha, Adam Beyer, Damian Lazarus and Art Department forming the bill at LA Loves Techno. If you're still up at noon on Tuesday the 1st, make your way to the Egyptian Theatre, where Lee Burridge will host a New Year's Day edition of his beloved All Day I Dream series.
San Francisco clubbers have lots to look forward to, as well. At Public Works, the third annual Sunset and Honey Soundsystem NYE bash will feature NYC acts MANIK and Still Going along with a collection of Sunset and Honey residents, including Galen and Jason Kendig. Remedy has Mark Farina and Miguel Migs confirmed for their party at Mezzanine, while Lights Down Low will set up shop at 222 Hyde for a night headlined by 5kinAndBone5 (AKA Matrixxman).
For something way out in left field, head to 1015 Folsom for Futuropolis, a 12-hour party with Holy Other, Star Slinger, Sinjin Hawke and Groundislava. Finally, once the clock strikes 6:00 AM, Monarch will open up for another New Year's Day with No Way Back, this time featuring NYC DJ and Golf Channel Recordings artist Justin Vandervolgen.
West and Midwest
Denver clubbers have a couple options on the table. House heads will want to get to NORAD to catch DJ Three—who is also billed for a secretly located afterparty that starts at 1:00 AM. At the Colorado Convention Center, big-room electro, bass and trance make up most of the program, with artists like ATB, Zeds Dead and Wolfgang Gartner.
In Chicago, two of the city's top clubs will ring in 2013 with a grip of local talent. Smart Bar's resident-only program includes Orchard Lounge and Nate Manic, while Spy Bar has Gene Farris confirmed. At Castle, trance icon Paul Oakenfold tops a multi-room lineup.
Heading further east to Detroit: DJ Psycho, John Johr and others will Pop The Bubbly at Bleu, while Jerry Downey and Secrets play Nude Photo at Temple Bar.
Miami techno heads looking for a proper finish to the year have a few epic parties to consider, with Marco Carola getting extended at Space (which will stay open til 4:00 PM the next day) and Carl Cox taking over Mansion.
Moving up the coast, you can catch dubstep pioneers Skream and Joker in Charlotte. In Washington DC, Poker Flat and Dessous fixture Vincenzo headlines a party at 1841 Columbia Rd. NW, while local trio Volta Bureau DJ all-night at U Street Music Hall. Over in Philadelphia, local revelers can check out the two-room Goodie NYE party with Crosstown Rebels duo Fur Coat and Tuning Spork co-founder (and Philly favorite) Someone Else.
Naturally, New York City will be spoilt for choice come New Year's Eve. Blkmarket Membership has Joel Mull, Alexi Delano and more billed for their party. Mister Saturday will descend on House Of Yes with residents Eamon Harkin and Justin Carter sharing the decks all night. Another duo, Francois K and Tedd Patterson, will go back to back at Cielo until 9:00 AM.
Matthew Dear will spend another NYE in NYC, and this time he's playing Le Bain with Superpitcher. The Bunker will host two repeat guests: Dial's John Roberts, who will play live, and Buffalo techno selector Mike Parker. Then there's The Wander, a warehouse bash located somewhere in Brooklyn, with Moby and Lee Burridge (who will play before heading to LA on Tuesday). At Long Island City's System Dance Club, Steve Lawler and Carlo Lio will play #Occupynye2013 which, according to the event info, "may very well last until January 2nd."
Looking for another extended year-end bash? ReSolute will team up with Wolf + Lamb for a 24-hour session featuring the W+L label bosses themselves, plus Soul Clap and a handful of live acts, including No Regular Play and PillowTalk. Finally, if you're still standing when the sun comes up on Tuesday, there's the Apocalypse, which will once again feature Danny Tenaglia and Victor Calderone, and Luciano and Friends at The Compound.
