  • Lukid will release a new album in October called Lonely at the Top. The LP will be Lukid's third for Werk Discs, the UK label run by Darren Cunningham, better known as Actress. According to a press release, it was partly inspired by an old bag of cassettes Lukid found on the street where he lives, which contained a hodgepodge of classical music, language tapes and disco. "Tape has a way of making things sound sad," he says. The discovery affected both the mood and the method behind the album: a tape machine was one of his few production tools, along with a couple of synths, an old Dell laptop and a MacBook. His modus operandi was notably unfussy: "I just thought, if it sounds good then that’s all that matters... I would record things back and forth and mess with the same sound so many times that by the end it was a complete mess and totally distorted.” As for the title, it's meant to be funny: “It clearly doesn’t apply to me.” You can download a track from the album called "USSR" in exchange for your email address right here.
