- Playin Me will come out on Hyperdub this July.
Cooly G will release her first album Playin Me in July.
The London producer represented one of Hyperdub's first ventures into house and UK funky with her debut single "Narst" back in 2009. Since then she's carved out a niche for herself somewhere in the realm of broken house and funky, with releases on Hyperdub as well as her own self-released Dub Organizer series, which now numbers eight volumes.
Since the birth of her child she's been rather quiet on the musical front, releasing only one single in 2011, Playin Me's lead single "Landscapes." The album will be composed of 13 tracks, all previously unreleased barring that aforementioned single containing "Landscapes" and "It's Serious," as well was previous Hyperdub single "Up In My Head." Recorded in her home studio, the album is a mixed bag of Cooly G's various percussive styles, layered with synths and her own drifting vocal sounds. A press release cites '80s Quiet Storm R&B and jungle as equal influences. "Trouble" will be a cover of the Coldplay track dating from 2000.
