  • Derrick May will be returning to Australia to play to play shows in five cities this coming April. Credited as one of the original innovators of techno, alongside high school buddies Kevin Saunderson and Juan Atkins, May has been an icon of Detroit's electronic music scene since the late 1980s. Classic tracks like "Strings of Life" and his legendary Transmat imprint have helped ensure his ongoing legacy, but it's his DJing that's made up the bulk of his later career and has helped maintain his status as one of techno's most important figures. Still a passionate and outspoken ambassador for his style of music, his touring schedule remains busy year after year. His upcoming return to Australia will take place only one year after his last visit. Adelaide will be the first to host May, with Tech-Phonics putting on a party at Electric Circus on April 20th. The following evening, May will head up to Brisbane to help celebrate Auditree's second birthday at Bar Soma, before popping back down to Melbourne for a Tuesday night show with Smalltown at New Guernica on April 24th. His Perth gig will be run by local promoters The Likes Of You at Ambar on Friday the 27th, and the tour will conclude in Sydney on the 28th at Chinese Laundry.
