  • Uwe Schmidt will play live as Atom TM in San Francisco this weekend. Aside from operating his own label, Rather Interesting, Schmidt has used dozens of production aliases over the last twenty years, drawing influence from Germany's experimental scene as well as the Latin rhythms he discovered while living in Chile. Perhaps his most well-known music has come under the names Señor Coconut, Atom Heart, and Atom TM—the alias he's used for his album Liedgut on the legendary Raster-Noton label and his live performances together with Pink Elln (AKA Tobias Freund). As Atom TM, Schmidt will play a live audio-visual set in San Francisco, his first such performance in the city. The night's host is the Gray Area Foundation for the Arts, a local nonprofit whose event space has recently been fitted with an eight-channel sound system. Visual art from the foundation's own artists will be on display, and a handful of local musicians will lend support for the night, including ~scape producer Safety Scissors and Beretta Grey artist Christina Chatfield.
