  • Portland, Oregon will host a grip of west coast artists next Friday and Saturday for the debut edition of the Closer Electronic Music Festival. The aim of the festival is to focus on Portland's underground house and techno culture, so the emphasis is on the city's own artists, with a few other acts coming from Seattle, Los Angeles and San Francisco. The festivities are spread out across venues around the city, and among the locals on hand for the occasion is Bryan Zentz, who has been releasing techno records since the mid 1990's for labels like Intec and Plus 8. Seattle Shitkatapult artist Jerry Abstract and San Francisco's David Javate will also man the decks at points throughout the weekend. In all, six events are planned across Friday and Saturday, including one free day-time party. For guests on a budget, a $15 presale ticket will grant entry into all other events.
