  • The first round of artists has been announced for this year's Fuji Rock festival, taking place on July 29th, 30th and 31st. Fuji Rock is Japan's biggest outdoor festival, typically billing more than 200 international acts and packing in over 100,000 revelers each year. Set in the woodsy mountainside of Naeba Ski Resort, it aims to be the world's greenest festival: among other innovations, the stages are carbon-neutral and powered by biodiesel fuel, and festival goers can (and do) volunteer to sort rubbish for recycling in between performances. Though the most prevalent sound is rock (this year's headliners include Coldplay, Incubus and Arctic Monkeys), Fuji always has a strong vein of electronic music as well. The Chemical Brothers top this years bill, along with Lee 'Scratch' Perry and Yellow Magic Orchestra, arguably Japan's most influential electronic group. Some headier sounds are on offer as well, thanks to Battles and Four Tet. Other highlights include DJ Hell, SBTRKT, Jamie xx, Tensnake, Digitalism and chill wave group Washed Out.
