  • Montreal-based electronic arts festival Mutek will hit the road for a third year of Avant_Mutek parties in select cities across North America, beginning this Saturday in Toronto with an appearance from UK dubstep artist Appleblim. Appleblim, AKA Laurie Osborne, might be most well-known for Skull Disco, the label he ran along with Shackleton; in its three years of existence, the two producers jumped to the front of the global dubstep and bass music scene. With Skull Disco shutting down in 2008, Appleblim launched his own Apple Pips imprint, which has released music from the likes of Martyn, Ramadanman, and T++. Per the usual Avant_Mutek combination of international artists paired with home-grown talent, Appleblim's DJ set at the Drake Hotel will be supported by Canadian bass artists Bowly and Knowing Looks. The Avant_Mutek series will then make a stop at Vancouver's W2 on Saturday, April 9th, in a collaborative event with local non-profit arts group New Forms Media Society. Veteran Detroit selector Theo Parrish will headline, with help from local live acts Jason Lev and Love Dancing.
