  • Dalston's Russian Bar will welcome back Days Like That on January 28, with T. Williams and Horsepower Productions headlining the old school affair. The first Days Like That event took place in early 2010 with an unashamedly nostalgic agenda, focusing on the late '90s and early '00s sounds of 2-step and UK Garage, genres that would eventually develop and splinter off into dubstep, UK Funky and the various cross-strains of modern UK bass. Referencing influential artists like MJ Cole, Wookie and El-B, and the early years of defining London imprint Locked On, the bi-monthly nights have aimed to bring together the originators of UKG with modern acts, and have featured guests like DJ Noodles and Sunship alongside young revivalists Deadboy and Rinse FM's Funkystepz. The first Days Like That of the year will feature rising UK Funky talent T. Williams playing an exclusive UKG Set, alongside London pioneers Horsepower Productions. Widely considered the progenitors of dubstep, early 12-inch releases by the group for Tempa introduced the minimalist, dub-influenced sound that that dominated genre for the first half of the last decade. With a recent resurgence in popularity due to their 2010 album Quest for the Sonic Bounty, Horsepower Productions' set is likely to cherry pick tracks from both ends of their discography. They will be complemented by Scott Garcia, the man behind speed garage anthem "It's A London Thing," plus Hot City's DJ Haus. The Russian Club basement will also be put to use, under the banner of Phonica Records' inhouse UK bass imprint Local Action. Hyperdub's Scratcha will cue up a set of heavy rolling jungle, alongside eclectic selections from Dusk & Blackdown, while Local Action head Tom Lea will go back-to-back with DJ Shandy.
