  • Sydney club night Shrug will celebrate its second birthday this month, calling in New Zealand's Antix duo to headline the event next Friday. In its relatively short period of operation, Shrug has become one of Sydney's most respected house and techno parties. Based at the Civic Underground, the night has played host to a variety of international guests, with the bigger names including Clive Henry, Pezzner and Simon Baker. What's most special about Shrug, though, is its emphasis on local talent. Each week features a variety of Sydney-based DJs, ranging from veteran jocks to up-and-comers. Shrug's next edition will feature a live set from Antix. Though they're based just a few hours away from Australia by plane, the pair don't make it across to Australia for gigs very often, so next weekend will give Sydneysiders a rare chance to catch them in action. Musically, the Antix sound stretches from their grounding in progressive house to excursions into minimal techno. Tickets for Shrug's second birthday are available here at RA Tickets.
