  • August's Bank Holiday weekend is traditionally one of the most hectic periods in the UK's clubbing calendar, with punters being typically spoiled for choice when it comes to deciding where they're going to end up. All this choice can be overwhelming, so we've decided to help you out this year with a regional round-up of the hottest electronic music events going on this weekend. It seems like Manchester is the place to be for house and techno on the Friday night, with two special parties featuring guests imported from the US. The inaugural Chicago: New York: Detroit bash at Sound Control boasts two artists each from the aforementioned cities, with Tevo Howard, Timmy Regisford and Stacey Pullen amongst the performers on the night. If on the other hand, you'd prefer to celebrate Manchester's homegrown talent, Sankeys will be hosting a Hacienda night with appearances from Peter Hook and original resident DJ Graeme Park. It isn't all local performers, however, as NY house sensation Todd Terry will be in the house to play a set that will most likely be heavy on his own productions. Creamfields will be on hand to satisfy those of you that need their festival kicks over the weekend, with Erol Alkan, Joris Voorn, Richie Hawtin (who'll be performing the UK debut of his new Plastikman set), Sasha, Sven Vath and Tiesto among the heavyweight acts that will be heading to the site in Cheshire. Saturday night will see the return of Manchester's loosely hip-hop-based party, Hoya:Hoya, who will showcase the contemporary sound of Los Angeles with sets from both Lorn and Kutmah. Their updated line-up of residents isn't anything to sniff at either, with Lone set to join Hoya co-founders Illum Sphere and Jonny Dub behind the decks. Meanwhile at The Plug in Sheffield, jacking house will be on the menu courtesy of Dirtybird's Claude VonStroke and Justin Martin. Bank Holiday Sunday is usually the busiest day of the weekend, with plenty of special events to lure you out of the house. If you fancy going in for the long haul, there are three extended terrace parties going on, with two of them taking place in Leeds. Technique and Asylum's joint shindig at The Faversham will see Omar-S, Trus'me and Audion each lay down sets, while Louche and System will be going for more of a minimal and tech-house vibe with Martin Buttrich, Losoul and Petre Inspirescu at Nation Of Shopkeepers. Further north in Newcastle, Habit will be catering for lovers of disco and deep house with their 12-hour session, which will feature appearances from Aeroplane, The Revenge and Dixon. As far as smaller parties go, Newcastle's The Cut club will host a DJ set from electronic disco stalwarts Faze Action, Lorn will play an early show at Cumbria's Lanternhouse, while Berghain resident André Galluzzi will headline proceedings at The Shipping Forecast in Liverpool.
