  • Munich-based label Out Here Records is set to release a new compilation called Ayobaness! The Sound of South African House. As the title suggests, the new compilation features 13 tracks you might hear out at a club in Johannesburg or Durban. Following the end of apartheid in 1994, young people in South Africa's townships (separate residential areas for non-whites) created a style of music called kwaito, which is essentially low tempo house beats with rapping in Zulu, Xhosa and broken English, or as global beat connoisseur Diplo put it, "slowed-down garage music." After a while, DJs and producers began mixing kwaito with international house beats, and in the process founded their own style of house. Ayobaness! collects tracks from some of the scene's key artists, including DJ Cleo, DJ Clock and Big Nuz. The compilation also features a new tune by DJ Mujava, who brought South African house to the international stage in 2008 with his single Township Funk on Warp Records. Tracklist 01.
