  • Sydney may have nabbed many of the techno and house internationals for New Year's Eve, but it is Melbourne that reigns supreme on a (hopefully) sunny New Year's Day, with techno, house and dubstep in full effect across the city. Getting things started on New Year's Eve, Belgian electro mainstays 2 Many DJs headline Killer at the Palace Theatre, supported by Russian electro up-and-comer The Proxy. Those after a more traditional blend of techno will be able to head to Brunswick, with Mike Callander headlining My Aeon's locals-only celebrations. House is catered for with German Christian Burkhardt stepping into Room680 for Dressless. For punters after the bigger names, New Years Day is when it's all happening. Techno and progressive house acts make up the majority of the those present at the Melbourne leg of the Summadayze festival, with Danny Tenaglia, Carl Cox, Sharam and Josh Wink headlining the Sidney Myer Music Bowl event. Nic Fanciulli, LCD Soundsystem and Danny Howells also join in the outdoor affair. Add Pete Tong and Cassius to that list, with the former headlining DayDream at the Dockland's Shed 14, and the latter topping the Betterdays bill Albert Park. It's not just fans of more commercial acts that get to spend some of the day in the sun, though: Techno of an underground nature will be on show underneath a sunset on Port Phillip Bay, with Swiss jock Ripperton headlining the Blow Your Own Way boat party, while Christian Vance and Aram Chapers head up the local cast. Brown Alley and LaDiDa join forces to host a multi-genre showcase, with Derrick Carter, Anthony Pappa and Matthias Meyer representing the house contingent, and Rennie Pilgrem, Elite Force and Skool Of Thought handling broken beat duties. Meanwhile, at Roxanne Parlour, Bass Jump 2010 is set to get underway, hosting Skream, Benga, Joker and LTJ Bukem for what will be the biggest dubstep and drum & bass excursion Melbourne has seen in some time.
