  • Los Angeles will get a new dance music festival this fall. Entitled Convention 101, the event is spearheaded by local promoter Robtronik and will feature artists such as Juan Atkins, Wighnomy Brothers, Paco Osuna and more over the course of three days in September in outdoor and indoor facilities. The festival's first night will celebrate Hollywood’s resurgence in hosting serious electronic music events, pairing international talents with local. Joel Mull and Sean Palm are among the first announced guests. It will be day two, however, that will be the main focus for partygoers, with three stages at Premiere Events Lot 613 and 614 in downtown Los Angeles and artists like Stacey Pullen, Deepchord presents Echospace and Misstress Barbara slated to play. Robtronik will be bringing separate concepts to each stage: Compression (minimal/house/techno), Planetary (Detroit/hard techno) and Expansion (deep house and techno with plenty of live performances). The final day, meanwhile, will be a VIP affair over at the Downtown Standard Rooftop, home to many a poolside party over the summer in the city. The festival follows in the wake of many successful events in the city, including the massive Electric Daisy Carnival, which pulled in an estimated 100,000 punters. But while that event focused more heavily on more mainstream acts, Robtronik is aiming for quality, rather than quantity: “I have long felt that the West Coast and Los Angeles needed an event of this type. There is a rich history of electronic music in Los Angeles and America, and I wanted to build a West Coast event that acknowledges that history while showcasing adventurous groundbreaking contemporary acts."
