  • Ian Simmonds is set to release his third full-length this August on Musik Krause. Entitled The Burgenland Dubs after the German region which he found himself writing and recording the collection, the forthcoming album will be his first for Musik Krause after a succession of 12-inches over the last four years. After previously settling in the city of Jena, Simmonds was looking for a new space to find musical inspiration, and following a tip from a friend who knew a town official, moved north to Castle Wendelstein in Saxony-Anhalt. "This was a special time for me," Simmonds explains, "a special experience and I think you can hear it in the music. To be that deep in nature and the atmosphere of the castle was profound for me—very inspiring. For the first time in more than twenty years I could really think ... You know, breathe, make a plan." Those familiar with Simmonds' jazzy minimal house on Musik Krause will know what to expect from the record, with live instrumentation flowing through the electronic filter on both downtempo and more flowing 4/4 cuts. Ten previously unreleased tracks that were composed during his time in Castle Wendelstein will feature on the record, as well as three selections from his earlier EPs. Fans of Michael Mayer's Immer 2 may also recognize the dreamlike haziness of "The Dog," which cropped up as the second track on the 2006 mix. Tracklist 01. Non Military Intro 02. Sands of Tunis 03.
