  • Dave Smith Instruments has announced a new synthesiser, the Prophet X. The latest edition in Smith's long-running Prophet range of polysynths expands its sound palette by combining both sampling and synthesis. The bi-timbral, 16-voice engine runs two sample and two digital oscillators through a stereo pair of 24 dB/octave resonant low-pass filters. It comes with 150 GB of 16-bit, 48kHz samples by 8Dio, while modulation is supplied by four LFOs, four five-stage envelopes and a mod matrix. Polyphonic step-sequencing is also supported, offering 64 steps and up to six notes per step. The Prophet X follows on from the Prophet Rev2, which was announced in January last year. It's expected to ship in summer for around $3,999. Watch a demo patch on the Prophet X.
