  • Chor Ng, the owner of the Ghost Ship warehouse which burned at a 100% Silk showcase in Oakland last December, killing 36, will receive a $3 million insurance payout for the building. KTVU FOX 2 reports that the payment by Commercial Industrial Buildings Owners Alliance Insurance Company was confirmed by attorneys for one of the defendants in the criminal case. Curtis Briggs, an attorney defending Max Harris—who, alongside Derick Ion Almena, was charged with 36 counts of manslaughter following the tragic fire—was also on hand. "She profited off this tragedy," Briggs said. Ng was not charged in the criminal case, though she is the subject of multiple civil lawsuits. The local FOX affiliate confronted Ng on the street about the payout, the fire and her awareness of serious electrical issues at the Ghost Ship warehouse. She did not comment.
