- The Downwards boss remade the LP from the original stems.
Regis is releasing a new version of his 1996 debut album Gymnastics.
For this new edition, the Downwards founder pairs "unreleased sequences" with newly recorded versions made with the album's original stems. The label calls it a "stronger, fitter version" of the LP. It also boasts new artwork, with a plain blue background replacing the original's depiction of the World Trade Center in New York.
Gymnastics was a foundational record in the mid-'90s Birmingham techno scene. It was recorded in 1996 in Scorn's studio with a stripped-back setup of one drum machine, one effects unit and one synth. This isn't the first time Gymnastics has been re-released—it was repressed on vinyl in 2006 and reissued digitally in 2007.
