  • Zachary Saginaw, AKA Ghostly International affiliate Shigeto, has started a label called Portage Garage Sounds with his brother Benjamin. Shigeto and his brother, who plays bass in the band Ritual Howls, are running the label out of Hamtranck, a small city surrounded by Detroit. Growing out of the parties they've helped throw, they aim to develop the label into a local "facilitator" and "arts incubator." Their mission statement reads, "We're just trying to break even and have a good time." Portage Garage Sounds' first release, out now, is a vinyl-only single from Shigeto called Detroit Part II. Its roots are in a jazz show Zachary Saginaw put together four years ago, when saxophonist Marcus Elliot made an unplanned appearance with the band in order to get into the sold-out venue. Elliot features on both the original version and the B-side I94 Mix. Both Shigeto and Ritual Howls are booked for this Friday's Physical Therapy 3 party at Marble Bar in Detroit, which takes place on the eve of Movement 2017. The lineup there also includes Matthew Dear, ADULT., Mike Servito and Laurel Halo. Tracklist A Detroit Part II feat. Marcus Elliot B Detroit Part II feat.
