  • Raster-Noton has divided its operation into two entities, it announced in a statement today. The German multimedia organisation, based in Chemnitz and Berlin, will become Raster-Media. It will be run by Olaf Bender, AKA Byetone, who cofounded Rastermusic—one of two labels that merged to form Raster-Noton in 1996 alongside Frank Bretschneider. A second label, Noton, has also emerged from the reorganisation. Noton will be a vehicle for the solo work of Carsten Nicolai, AKA Alva Noto. Noton will reissue the entire Alva Noto back catalogue, which will be available digitally on the label's website and various retailers. Noton will also release music from Nicolai's collaborations with Ryuichi Sakamoto and Ryoji Ikeda in the next 12 months. Collaborations between Raster-Media and Noton—including the 10th edition of the Raster-Noton-run festival, Rome's Electric Campfire—will continue using the Raster-Noton name. The label, established in 1999, was the result of a merger between Rastermusic and its sublabel, Noton, which was run by Nicolai. The reorganisation brings to an end the "successful collaboration" between the two labels. Here's the statement in full.
