  • DJ Harvey's Mercury Rising residency will return to Ibiza Rocks House, AKA Pikes Hotel, for eight weeks this summer. It'll be the third year Harvey Bassett has held a regular slot at the venue. In 2017 he'll play all-night sets every Monday from August 7th through September 25th. Bassett will hold down that slot amid a flurry of other residencies at venues like Ministry Of Sound, Concrete, Berghain and Output. In addition to his DJ sets, Bassett will help run Pikes Hotel's new record label, Pikes Records, along with Ibiza Rocks cofounders Andy McKay and Dawn Hindle. "I see so many avenues to work together to release music, everything from live recordings from Ibiza Rocks and Pikes, mixtapes, original productions, showcasing new artists, there's all sorts of avenues to open up," Bassett says. The first release will be a Mercury Rising compilation. He's also been named the venue's "Cultural Attaché." "Cultural Attaché is a broad term for basically being a lot more involved," Bassett says. "I do a lot of things that most DJs don't consider. Putting a bit more effort and care into the whole thing and going beyond the natural call of duty of a DJ and really being involved in all aspects of the evening's entertainment." He adds: "I do take great care in compiling the best music that I possibly can for the night that portrays my idea of a hedonistic Balearic house party. I'll be playing music that could be 40 years old, and music that's only a few days old from modern producers. So [it will be] right across the board and my sensibility is what will hold it all together." The Mercury Rising parties are free, but you need to register for guestlist. You can do that here.
