Fis has recorded an album with Maori sound artist Rob Thorne, due out on May 12th.
Clear Stones is the first collaboration between New Zealand producer Olly Peryman and his Maori countryman Rob Thorne. Thorne has been making music in New Zealand for over two decades with "various oblique-style flutes, horns, percussion, and objects spun above the player's head during performance," according to record label Subtext. Instruments such as the Putatara (a conch horn), the Tumutumu Kohatu (percussion made from stones) and Putorino—which the press notes describe as "an instrument that is both flute and horn"—all appear on Clear Stones.
"Fis sculpts bold new settings for the music, mired in deep bass and vast synthetic tones," says the label, "at times pushing Thorne's wood, stone and bone into total transformative saturation."
The two artists will also embark on a tour of Europe for the release, though dates are still TBA.
