  • Full details of Forest Swords' new album, Compassion, have emerged. The LP was hinted at earlier this month when Ninja Tune announced they'd signed a new track, "The Highest Flood," from the Liverpudlian producer, real name Matthew Barnes. (He later sent fans more unreleased music via Whatsapp.) The London label will also handle the full-length, which is Barnes's first since 2013's debut, Engravings. Compassion is ten tracks long and will be performed live all over Europe this summer, including stops at Field Day, Sónar and Dekmantel festivals. "Like many, with all that's been going on since I started making the record, I've struggled to see any kind of light at the end of the tunnel," says Barnes. "So I realised there's some sort of power in trying to create our own instead. I'm inspired by the ways we're communicating now, for better or worse, and thinking about new channels we can distribute ideas. The idea of looking for flexible future ways of expression and language, that bends to our needs quicker, really excites me." After the album, Barnes will set his mind to a series of dance, performance, film and music projects, to be produced and released via his new experimental studio and record label, Dense Truth. More details will be announced in the coming months. Watch the video for "Arms Out," directed by Sam Wiehl.
