  • The BPM Festival has issued a statement on Facebook saying that their events in Brazil are postponed "until further notice." The announcement comes one month after the tragic shooting at the BPM Festival closing party in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. In the days that followed the incident, the city's mayor held a press conference where she explained that events such as BPM were no longer welcome in the area. There has been speculation in various major news outlets that the violence was tied to a conflict between drug cartels and festival organizers. BPM Festival Brazil, which was intended as a celebration of the brand's tenth anniversary, was scheduled to take place from April 28th to May 1st in the beach resort towns of Itajaí and Balneário Camboriú. "For now, we will be postponing our plans for The BPM Festival in Brazil until further notice," the statement reads. "Our hearts are broken by the loss of six wonderful lives that were cruelly cut short. We will not forget them as we struggle to come to grips that such a tragedy could have occurred at an event that is the very embodiment of positivity and shared love of music in the global dance community." Their Portuguese offshoot, which will take place in September of 2017, is set to go forward as planned, though the location and lineup details haven't yet been revealed.
