  • Flying Lotus' feature film, Kuso, reportedly triggered mass walkouts at Sundance Film Festival in Utah this week. An excerpt of the movie—Flying Lotus' directorial debut—premiered at a Sundance offshoot called NEXT FEST in Los Angeles in August, and the venue distributed barf bags prior to the screening. This week the full feature hit Sundance, and numerous outlets have reported crowds walking out of the cinema, unable to endure its violent and grotesque depictions. A nonetheless favorable review in The Verge called it "the grossest film ever," describing scenes of "copious gore" and "vomit-inducing pseudo goofs." Verge reviewer Christ Plante writes: "Some folks stuck around after a woman chewed on concrete until her teeth disintegrated, but still peaced out when an alien creature force-yanked a fetus from another woman's womb (accompanied by a Mortal Kombat sound clip: "Get over here!"), then smoked the tiny corpse." The film doesn't currently have a release date, and hasn't announced any distribution deals. Listen to Flying Lotus and the filmmaker David Firth discussing the project on RA's The Hour podcast.
