  • Popular Dublin music venue Tivoli Theatre may be demolished to make way for a new 298-bed hotel. According to Newstalk, the scheme is being spearheaded by Tivoli owner Anthony Byrne, who plans to erect a six-storey building on the city centre site. The proposal was lodged with Dublin City Council before Christmas. Should it get the green light, it'll impact heavily on District 8, a 1000-capacity nightclub housed within the Tivoli grounds. That said, according to a post on District 8's Facebook, "the plans for the redevelopment of the Tivoli site are extremely long-term. We have shows booked right up until 2018 and beyond." Recent guests at District 8 include Ben Klock, Jeff Mills and Patrick Topping. The Tivoli Theatre opened in 1987, hosting a mix of plays, musicals and rock concerts. In 2003, €3 million was spent converting the venue into a nightclub. District 8 opened in 2011.
