  • Gary Kilbey, fabric's managing director, has issued a transparency statement confirming that the money from the club's #saveourculture campaign will go towards 'worthy causes' in the nightlife industry. This is the fifth transparency statement from the club, and the first since news broke that the EC1 venue had won back its license. In it, Kilbey says that the fundraising campaign will close on Wednesday, November 23rd at 5 PM GMT. So far more than 7,000 people have donated £326,000. "We envisage having a substantial surplus due to the overwhelming support that's been shown to us and these residual funds will be used to help other worthy causes within the industry, including Philip Kolvin QC's pursuance of licensing reform which is he currently championing," writes Kilbey. The club will continue to use part of the funds to work towards reforming the Licensing Act 2003. "Through this action we are seeking to protect other venues from having expensive legal proceedings brought against them until every other avenue has been exhausted. Closing a premises should be a last resort and this is what we are still working towards." Kilby has also announced plans for a new artwork, which will live inside the club. "If you donated, keep an eye on your inbox as we will very shortly be inviting you to cement your part in fabric's history."
