- The writer, DJ, performer and campaigner has been selected as the person to champion the capital's night-time culture and economy.
Amy Lamé has been appointed as London's first Night Czar.
Lamé was unveiled today at a press conference attended by London mayor Sadiq Khan, who described the role as "the toughest gig in City Hall." As Night Czar, Lamè will champion the UK capital's night-time culture and economy. She has a history of campaigning on behalf of venues, and was involved with the campaign to save the Royal Vauxhall Tavern. Lamè outlined her first initiative as Night Czar, a series of monthly Night Surgeries, through which she'll speak with businesses, night-time workers, members of the public and local resident to "get an understanding of Londoners' views of the night-time economy."
"For too long, the capital's night-time industry has been under pressure," she said. "Music venues and nightclubs are closing at an alarming rate."
"The recent closure of the world-famous nightclub Fabric and the threats facing other venues across the capital show why Amy will be a much-needed ambassador for the city after dark," said Khan.
The role will be similar to the position currently held by Mirik Milan in Amsterdam.
