  • A reissue of Lena Platonos' 1984 album ??s?e? ?????, or Sun Masks, is on the way via Dark Entries. Platonos is an influential figure in Greece's electronic music scene, and her recording career stretches back more than three decades. Still active today, she was one of the first Greek musicians to experiment with electronic instrumentation, which featured on her records alongside often surrealistic lyrics about personal relationships and daily life. Synth pop and new wave fans might know her best by "Bloody Shadows From Afar," from her 1985 LP Gallop (G????p). An extended version of the song was released on Kunstkopf in 2013, before the San Francisco-based Dark Entries reissued the entire album in 2015, later backing it up with an EP of Red Axes remixes. This time, Dark Entries is focusing its attention on Sun Masks, Platonos' first solo full-length. She had previously appeared on a few collaboration albums, and prior to that had composed music for a popular children's radio program, Lilipoupoli. The gear she used on Sun Masks included a Yamaha CS-60 synthesizer and Roland TR-808 drum machine, along with effects units for both her voice and synth. Listen to samples of the album ahead of its November re-release.
