  • Richie Hawtin and Pioneer DJ have started a campaign, called Get Played Get Paid, to improve the distribution of royalties for music played during DJ sets. To help achieve this, Hawtin's RADR app for Traktor users, which directly posts track IDs of productions being played live in a DJ set to a Twitter handle, now integrates with Pioneer DJ's KUVO service, a similar app that catalogues track metadata in realtime. Both parties are working with the Association For Electronic Music to combine their technologies and better track the productions actually being played in DJ sets to distribute royalties more fairly. The current system puts responsibility on clubs and DJs to report tracklists for royalty distribution. These are often incomplete or inaccurate, which leads to royalties being distributed to labels and artists whose music was not actually played. A production has to be filed with a performance rights organisation in order to be eligible for royalties. Then, if it is performed on a system running RADR or KUVO, it can be identified and the rights holder properly paid. Plans for integrating RADR and KUVO were first raised back in 2014, when KUVO first launched. Watch a promo movie for more information.
