  • Nicolas Jaar is now operating an extensive online radio network via the Other People website. The New York City producer has been hinting at a new record called Sirens. It appears to be the last in a trilogy of free releases that includes his 2015 album Pomegranates and the three-part collection Nymphs. Today, Jaar announced he will be shuttering his label's weekly subscription service, which sent out new music every Sunday for ten dollars a month. He says Other People will focus on a more concentrated run due to his heavy DJ schedule, but in the meantime, he's thrown up an online radio station, which allows users to pick a channel between zero and 333, but only in multiples of three. The details of each station's programming are vague, but Jaar recommends the station numbers 324, 195, 108, 243, 225, 33. Pitchfork speculates the wealth of content might be part of an elaborate lead-up to the new release. Some of the station titles and pop-up images are references to previous work that may contain some kind of encoded meaning. The metadata on the Other People site also includes “thetrilogy.jpg,” which could tie into the previous suggestion that a third release in the series is on the way. The new radio station also marks three years in existence for Other People. Poke around the station here. Read Jaar's full statement on the news.
Dear Opies, First, I want to thank you for your amazing support over the past 3 years, you have allowed us to experiment and grow. But most importantly, you’ve sustained a space for dozens of young artists from all over the world to begin or continue their paths. Thank you Thank you Thank you As some of you may have noticed, we have stopped our monthly subscription. There are two reasons behind this decision. First of all, I will be playing live again and unable to be fully present on a week to week basis. But it’s also a financial decision: every release was a labour of love, and I took up DJing the last couple of years in part to finance the label. We will now concentrate on a much smaller batch of yearly releases starting in 2017. Until then, the site will mutate into www.other-people.network (Chrome preferred). I will let you guys discover what this is on your own but all I’ll say is that channels 324, 195, 108, 243, 225, 33 would be good places to start. And channel 333 will be a good place to end. Okay that’s all, see you on the road. Love, N
