- Whoever gets the job will be required to champion the UK capital's night time culture and economy.
The London mayor's office is calling on applications for the city's first "Night Czar."
Whoever lands the role will be tasked with shaping London's future as a 24-hour city, according to the job page, while also "championing the value of London's night time culture [and] developing and diversifying London's night time economy." The job is 2.5 days per week with an annual salary of £35,000.
"Working with the Mayor, the Night Time Commission, local authorities, businesses, the Metropolitan Police Service, Transport For London and other agencies, the Night Czar will create a vision for London as 24-hour city and a roadmap showing how the vision will be realised," the ad continues.
The idea of introducing a night time champion was supported by both the current mayor Sadiq Khan (pictured right) and his predecessor, Boris Johnson. The Night Czar will likely arrive at a crucial juncture for the city's club scene, with one of London's foremost venues, fabric, facing a battle with Metropolitan Police and Islington Council following the deaths of two 18-year-old clubbers. The situation led to Khan publicly calling on all parties to work together to "protect the future" of fabric. The city's 24-hour Night Tube service also began last weekend after months of delays.
