  • Friday's fire at UK festival Boomtown Fair was "most likely" caused by a discarded cigarette, police report. Judging by the festival's official Twitter account, the West Car Park blaze started some time in the afternoon on day two of the four-day event. The report from the Hampshire Fire And Rescue Service states that six fire trucks were deployed to the scene. An initial joint investigation by the police and fire services concluded that the most likely cause was a discarded cigarette igniting stubble on the ground. There have been no reported injuries, though the nearby campsite, known to festivalgoers as Boomtique, was evacuated as a safety precaution. The 50,000-capacity festival, which takes place annually at The Matterley Bowl in Winchester, went ahead despite the incident, hosting performances from electronic acts like Leftfield, Derrick May and Jackmaster.
