  • Jeff Mills will finish his latest album, Planets, at London's Abbey Road Studios in July. Planets is inspired by British composer Gustav Holst's 100-year-old score of the same name. According to Mills's label, Axis Records, the Detroit artist has "composed a sonic journey to rediscover our neighboring planets in an 18-piece suite that explores the nine planets, including the portions of space in between the planets." Sound-wise, we're told to expect "minimalist electronic composition for orchestras, symphonic and philharmonic." The album is based on a live recording of a Planets performance in 2015 at Casa da Musica with the Symphony Orchestra of Porto. Mills will mix down the LP at Abbey Road from July 18th through 20th. It's slated for a 2017 release. Next year will also see Mills bring the Planets live show to London's Barbican as part of a four-date residency. Listen to the 2014 RA Exchange with Mills.
