  • Rush Hour Music will release Surinam Funk Force soon. The Amsterdam record label and store, known for their ability to source and revive rare music, has been delving into the elusive Surinam scene for a few years now. In 2012, its sister label Kindred Spirits released Surinam! Boogie & Disco Funk From The Surinamese Dance Floors 76' - 83' and in 2014, Rush Hour reissued a 1983 LP called Trying To Survive from Sumy (an outsized character from the Surinam scene who was briefly signed to Philips). The new ten-track collection follows up on the Kindred Spirits set, and it was compiled by Rush Hour boss Antal Heitlager and Thomas Gesthuizen. Surinam Funk Force includes one cut from Sumy and the label says the compilation "goes even deeper into the field of '70s and '80s funk music from the Surinamese dance floors."
