  • Berlin-based Frenchman UVB is starting his own label, Body Theory Records. UVB, real name Sébastien Michel, has been causing a stir in the techno scene since his 2014 debut, primarily through his connection with Bas Mooy's Mord imprint. Mord has put out three of his releases across six slabs of wax, including the triple-vinyl Life LP, along with a track on the Herdersmat compilation. (He's also appeared on labels like Pole Recordings, Fracture and, most recently, 47.) "Producing music has always been more important to me than being a DJ," Michel says in a press release introducing Body Theory. He explains the name as being a reference to electronic body music (EBM), "a huge influence," and "an application of the theory of physicalism in music ... I like to think that the music I like the most is the perfect equation of frequencies that makes my body move, without me having to use my mind. Music would then be a physical language—the body language." Michel plans to release techno and other forms of electronic music, like "post-punk, industrial, wave and ambient," through Body Theory. Its first release, a UVB four-tracker called Dogma, will drop next month on vinyl and digital formats. The label will also use cassette tapes as a medium for special projects. No audio previews for Dogma have been posted yet. For now, tune into Life standout "Enlightenment" below.
