  • Suzanne Ciani's Buchla Concerts will get a release on Finders Keepers Records on April 29th. The recordings document two performances, one at WBAI Free Music Store and the other from minimalist composer Phill Niblock’s Loft. They acted as a live presentation, a grant application for Ciani and an educational demonstration of the Buchla synthesizer (Ciani worked for the San Francisco-based synth company at the time). Andy Votel's Finders Keepers says the early Buchla recordings are a "game changer," providing a "distinctly feminine alternative" to Morton Subotnick's pioneering 1968 record Silver Apples Of The Moon. In a 2014 interview with Self-Titled, Ciani referred to the 1975 concerts, saying "I'm just amazed when I hear that 1975 concert. Carrying that off—keeping it going and making all of the transitions—was very intense, like an out of body experience." A brief excerpt of the 1975 concerts appeared on Finders Keepers' 2012 Ciani compilation Lixivation, but this is the first time they've appeared in unabridged form. Finders Keepers' Demdike Stare-related sublabel Dead-Cert also released Ciani's Voices Of Packaged Souls in 2012. Listen to clips over on the label's website. Tracklist 01.
