  • A new Derrick May residency will launch in Houston on Friday, March 25th. The quarterly series, called Derrick May and Friends, is a collaboration between May and his enduring Transmat Records label (which turns 30 this year) and Sonido, a Houston promoter who's previously brought the Detroit jock to town (along with artists like Delano Smith and Joe Beltram). Each event will pair May with one of his friends or affiliates. At Jet Lounge next month, that means May will share the bill with Francesco Tristano, who'll play live. A classically trained pianist and composer, Tristano has gigged with May previousl. Ten years ago (early on in his career) he released a cover of "Strings Of Life," the classic 1987 track from May's Rhythim Is Rhythim alias. Support on the night will come from Sonido's JJ Malave and Marcus Starkist. Revisit "Strings Of Life" below.
